Tulsa, OKLA (April 1st, 2017) - With a car count of only 33 between the Sooner Late Model Series and the Creek County Speedway Non-Wing Champ Sprints, two drivers can now say they conquered "The Creek."
Jay Sale made his run to the checkered flag in the 25-lap Sooner Late Model Series main event. After starting on the outside of the front row, he made an early pass on pole sitter David Hennan to drive his way to victory lane. David Hennan was able to hold on to the runner up spot at the end of the feature event.
With Logan Ellis hot on Hennan's trail, Ellis found himself trying to hold off Steven Hawkins and Dillon Rupe, who was unable to complete the pass before the checkered flag fell. Rupe was able to challenge Hawkins and challenged him several times towards the end of the race, and was finally able to make the pass on Hawkins on lap 20. Hawkins was unable to re-challenge Rupe for the position and settled for a 5th place finish.
Wayne Bush was able to motor to a 6th place finish after starting at the tail of the field, while Eric Brill managed to hold on to his starting position of 7th. Richie Burcik had to wrestle a mis-handling racecar, after finding himself stuck on the front stretch wall while leading during heat race action, finishing the race in 8th place. Nate Jantz managed a scoring 9th position after an early feature crash with Brandon Mitchell, forcing both cars to the pit area with suspension damage. Mitchell was scored in the 10th position. Sapulpa native Jason Redman was unable to take the green flag in the feature event due to a crash he sustained in his heat race, and was unable to make repairs in time.
Evan Sewell came out on top of the 22 car, 35-lap non-wing feature event, after battling early on with David Stephenson. After a series of opening lap crashes, Stephenson found himself leading the race until the red flag waved on lap 4 for a car taking a tumble in turn 3. After the restart, Sewell was able to challenge and complete the pass on Stephenson and race on to the checkered flag. After starting 8th, Alex Decamp made his way into 2nd place after making the pass on Stephenson.
The biggest mover of the race was Danny Smith, who drove his machine from a 17th place starting position to a 3rd place finish. The red flag flew once again on lap 29 for another car taking a hard ride in turn 2, which found Smith sitting in 4th place behind Decamp. After the restart, Decamp, who was sitting in 3rd, made quick work on Deal, making the pass on lap 30 for 2nd. On lap 31, Deal lost another position to Smith, who made the pass on him for his finishing 3rd position. Blake Hahn, who started 6th on the grid, managed to fall backward as far as 12th, and making ground back up to a 5th place finish.
