Bryan Hulbert – SAPULPA, Okla. (May 25, 2018) For the fifth year, Creek County Speedway will honor the life of Randy Wheeler. A longtime friend and employee of the track, as well as Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals, Randy lost his life in 2013.
“Randy was one of those guys that was always there, no matter what you needed. All you had to do was call and he would come running. We miss him a lot at Creek, and at the Expo every year. Randy was the one you could count on,” stated Creek County Speedway Manager, Steve Hahn.
The season’s seventh round of competition, Saturday, May 26 will feature the “Fast Five Weekly Series” of Champ Sprints, Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Mini Stocks, and Factory Stocks.
Travis Ashwood continues to lead the way with the Champ Sprints with a margin of 16 points over Danny Smith with Jimmy Taylor only 48 points removed from the top spot in third. Will Scribner and Bailey Hughes make up the top-five driver standings.
Four wins on the season, with three in the past trio of outings, Austin McSperitt continues to pad his advantage over Bobby Wolfe. At 66 markers, the pair is chased by Jimmy Owen with Calvin Lewis and Bill Newton in fifth.
With an impressive field of 25 Mini Stocks last weekend, point’s leader Leroy Burger holds a somewhat comfortable pace of 92 points over Kenny Grumadas. While the margin between the top-two nears 100 markers, the race for second is a two-point game with Justin Melton in the hunt. Making it a three-dog fight, Justin Melton sits eight points away from the runner-up spot with Michael Longacre fifth.
