Kyle Clark Progressing Through His 10th Year Of Racing Sprint Cars

SAPULPA, Okla. (July 23, 2019) Kyle Clark tried racing when he was six years old. Jumping into a Micro at Port City Raceway, he just wasn’t quite ready, but that didn’t stop the dream of getting behind the wheel.

“Tried it and froze up. I finally did get back in a Champ Sprint when I was 14 and went out to practice at Creek. I raced a couple of times and started racing full time when I was 15,” explained the Oklahoma shoe who started his dream of racing Sprint Cars in 2009.

Working in the shop with his Stepdad, Danny Smith, that has been Kyle’s connection to racing since he was a year old. Driving the No. 9$ for Smith, it has been a successful run with Kyle stacking up nearly 30 wins in Sprint Car competition.

Six wins on the season at Creek County Speedway in both Wing and Non-Wing competition, Kyle has started to spread his wings, so to say, during the 2019 season with the inclusion of more events with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. Not chasing championships at Creek or ASCS, the goal is to simply improve.

“I’ve had a couple wins ever since I started racing. My goal this year was to run my ASCS car more, run more races, and get more consistent. We’ve tried some different setups on the car, and we’ve found a couple of things that have been working out.”

On his progression into the ASCS side of racing, Clark stated, “You know, the Champ Sprints are fun and they are competitive, but I felt I wasn’t going to improve unless I stepped up and ran with the big boys. I could run with them anytime they came to Creek County, but we struggled everywhere else. Just like anything, the more I raced that car, the better I felt and was getting and now that Creek County has gone to the bigger wings, I’ve been able to transfer everything from one car to the other so that’s helped.”

While the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products is off until August as most teams are headed to the Knoxville Nationals in the coming weeks, this weekend will see action at Creek County Speedway with two round of competition on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27.

Friday will feature the USAC Wingless Sprints and Oklahoma, POWRi West Midgets, Dwarf Cars, and Factory Stocks with Saturday featuring Champ Sprints, Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Mini Stocks, and 600cc Modifieds

Clark plans to be in competition both nights this weekend.

Friday, July 26 Admission is $15 for adults and kids 10 and under get in free. Gates open at 5:00 P.M. with races going green at 7:30 P.M. (CT).

Weekly racing action on Saturday, July 27 has Admission at $10 for adults. Youth 11-14 will be admitted for $6 and kids 10 and under get into the grandstands for free. Pits Passes are $30 (under 10 years of age is $15). Special Event prices will be posted to the Creek County Speedway website, as well as Social Media.

Saturday events open at 5:00 P.M. with Hot Laps at 7:00 P.M. and Racing at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Special Event times will be posted as they arrive on the schedule.
