Sooner Late Model Series opens 2nd season Friday

John Rittenoure, TULSA, OK (March 27, 2017) - Following a highly success inaugural season the Sooner Late Model series begins its second season Friday with a stop at Creek County Speedway in Kellyville, Okla.

It will be the first ever visit to Creek County for the Sooner Series and the first time late models have raced on the Creek County quarter mile since 2009.

Last season a total of 49 competitors entered SLMS events with seven drivers making the winners circle over eleven events.

Friday’s show will be the first of 22 schedule for 2017.

Mark Harrison of Kingfisher won the inaugural SLMS champion winning by just 10 points over Stilwell’s Eddie Martin despite not winning a main event during the 2016 season. Harrison was a picture of consistency logging 10 top five finishes in eleven events.

Martin finished 2nd with two feature victories, Jay Sale of Edmond picked up third in points with two wins, Dalton Ragsdale of Muskogee was fourth and Tulsan Jason Redman finished fifth despite missing one event.

Randy Timms of Oklahoma City raced in four events in 2016 winning three of them while Kip Hughes of Enid, Davie Hennan of Wichita Falls, Texas, Harlan Sale of Edmond and Damian Potocha each picked up one victory.

Gates open on Friday a 5 p.m. with racing slated to begin at 8.

If you are traveling from Oklahoma City take I-44 east (Turner Turnpike) to exit 211 (Kellyville), Turn right to stop light (highway 66), turn right and track is one mile on left side of highway.

From Tulsa take I-44 West to exit 211. Turn left to stop light (highway 66), turn right and track is one mile on left side of the highway.
