HUNT BREAKS JR SPRINT STREAK, SILVA, NEWELL AND BAYER WIN FIRST OF SEASON, MCINTOSH, DAVIS, REPEAT
Tulsa, OKLA (June 3rd, 2017) - Journey Hunt breaks Junior Sprint streak, while Baron Silva, Jeffrey Newell, and Kevin Bayer score first wins of 2017. Bobby McIntosh makes it two on the season, and Hank Davis wins 2nd in Non-Wing.
Jeffrey Newell walked away victorious after Friday night's A-Class 20 lap main event. After starting 8th on the grid, Newell didn't waste any time getting to the front, leading the race on lap 3. Brock Berreth and Ryan Hunt were able to hold on to their 2nd and 3rd starting positions, while Gunner Bowden made his way up to fourth from his 9th place starting position. Kris Carroll lost one position to Bowden falling to fifth from his 4th place starting position.
Journey Hunt took home the Junior Spriint feature event win, breaking Joshua Gentry's five race winning streak. Ryan Timms finished 2nd after starting fourth, while Hayden Mabe and Jase Mosely both lost positions to Timms. Joshua Gentry finished fifth, but was disqualified after the race for failing to report to post race inspection.
Baron Silva won his first Restricted main event, besting the 13 car field. After a hard charge from 2nd place finisher Caleb Pence, Silva was able to hold him off and take the win. Pence came from an 8th place start, taking the lead from Silva on several occasions, but was unable to hold onto the lead. Rees Day Moran and Elezabeth Phillips also put their bids in for the lead, but was unable to hold off Pence to challenge Silva. Moran finished 3rd, while Phillips settled for a fourth place finish. Gage Laney finished 5th after starting ninth.
Kevin Bayer had a good night in the Outlaw division, coming from a 10th place start to win the 20-lap feature event. With a few opening lap crashes, that claimed a total of 6 cars, Bayer restarted in fourth, making it easy for him pull out to an early lead. Bayer lead all 20 laps to park it in victory lane. KJ Snow made an attempt on lap 15 for the lead, but was unable to complete the pass, settling for a 2nd place finish. Hank Davis came from a 5th place starting position to finish in 3rd while Tommy Thompson, Jr. gained 7 positions, starting in 11th to finish fourth. Kris Carroll started 2nd, but was involved in one of the opening lap crashes. Carroll was shuffled to the tail of the field on the restart, but was able to regain some of his lost positions to finish fifth.
Bobby McIntosh made it two on the season, and two in his micro racing career, holding off Ryan Cody to win the Sportsman 20-lap feature event. Cody started 6th but made his way into 2nd by the end of the opening lap. Cody spent the other 19 laps trying to chase down McIntosh, but was unable to catch him, forcing him to settle for a 2nd place finish. Jeremy Wickham advanced from his 8th place starting postion to finish 3rd. Wickham was challenged by current points leader Kayla Ward on lap 12, but Ward was unable to complete the pass. Ward Finished fourth. Troy Minton had a few battles on his hand, battling Ward for fourth, while holding off a hard charging Matt Cash and trying to tame a tough handling race car. Despite his efforts, he managed to hold onto his fifth place starting position.
Hank Davis piloted his number 42 machine to victory lane for the 2nd time in the Non-Wing division. Davis topped a hard charging Ronnie James, who came from a 12th place starting position to battle Davis for the lead. After several attempts at taking the lead, Davis was able to hold him off, and take home the win. James finished 2nd, while Thad Bennett lost one position to James at the end of the race, finishing 3rd. Tim Greene started fourth after having a good heat race finish, and was able to hold onto that position from Charles Johnson who was up one position from 6th to challenge Greene for his 4th place finsih. Johnson was unable to complete the pass on Greene, and finished the 20 lap race in fifth.
