USAC/WSO Driver Spotlight: Brett Wilson

I spent about 40 minutes interviewing 21 yr. old Brett Wilson of Coweta, Okla. Brett is your current USAC WINGLESS SPRINTS OKLAHOMA point’s leader.

I found out that he has been in the racing game now for 16 yrs., which means he was punchin the loud pedal at the young age of 5.

Since breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, I asked him what his beverage of choice to get his day going was and he told me it was Monster Energy Drinks (Any Flavor).

He also told me the ¼ mile Bull Rings are his type of race track. Then I asked what was his favorite joint to make circles around the dirt and he said his track of choice is Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla.

Brett said the first race car he ever drove was a home built Kart that he and his Dad (JC Wilson) put together. He ran it at Outlaw Motor Speedway Kart Track that was actually in the middle of the infield back then.

He mentioned to me that his favorite race car drivers were his (Mom) Dena Wilson (Good Modified Pilot in her own right) and Kelly Shyrock.

He has run the #53 all along his career. It was his chosen number as it’s one number away from his Mom’s #54 that she ran in her racing career.

I asked him why he chooses Wingless Sprint Cars and his answer was a bit different than what I expected. He said that he had grown up around Modified Racing and Wingless Sprints are like Modifieds because “It’s just 4 tires on the ground, the Motor and You”.

Car is co-owned his (Dad) JC Wilson and Brett.

He told me Ameriflex Hose & Accessories/Custom Coatings/Electrofied Motorsports are folks that help the #53 Sprinter compete.

JC & Brett call the shots on the 53 Sprinter but they get a bunch of help and support from his (Mom) Dena Wilson, (Girlfriend) Larissa Dutton. Crew members that pitch in Pilot Modified’s and other members are Daniel Abrams and Anthony Neel.

He spoke of family several times during our conversation and I came away feeling that the 21 yr. old just likes to race with his family.

You can catch the USAC WINGLESS SPRINTS OKLAHOMA leader in action Round #3 at Red Dirt Raceway on Friday May 11th.
