McSperitt Doubles Up With Davis, DeCamp, and Pense Scoring Wins At Creek County Speedway
Bryan Hulbert – SAPULPA, Okla. (September 15, 2018) Greeted by a warm September evening, Creek County Speedway went green with Round 19 of the Fast Five Weekly Series with the McSperitt cousins bringing their combined win total to 23 on the season, while Chad Davis rolled to a pair of Modified wins.
Larry Pense snagged his sixth win in Dwarf competition. The only driver picking up his first win of the season at Creek County was Alex DeCamp in Champ Sprints.
Taking over the top spot on Lap 4 and never looking back, Austin McSperitt continues to dominate the Factory Stock division with his 11th win of the season. Pulling within seven markers of the point’s lead, Bobby Wolfe crossed second with the driver leading the standings, Jimmy Owen, getting the final podium step. Tommy Romine and Calvin Lewis made up the top-five.
Keeping their trend alive, Kevin McSperitt was not going to be outdone in the Mini Stocks, won by a straightaway for his 12th win of the season in Mini Stock action. Wesley Knebel crossed second with Justin Melton, Jerad Traster, and Michael Longacre completing the top-five after starting 14th.
Grabbing the lead on Lap 2, Larry Pense was out of reach until five to go when Sam Stegeman moved to the runner-up spot and started gaining quickly. Pense in a Dwarf, and Stegeman in an Xcel 600cc Modified, the miniature Mod hit two to go and pulled alongside Sam for the lead, only to have a caution for debris put the field single file. Glued to the bottom line on the restart, Pense held on to win. Stegeman in second would have Chandler Folz, Sam Champlain, and Mike Howard filling out the top-five.
Starting off with Bailey Hughes on the point with the Champ Sprints, the No. 777 relinquished the lead on Lap 5 with Alex DeCamp taking over. Restart on Lap 12 DeCamp held low as Danny Smith, who took over second on Lap 7, pursued the cushion. Not able to overtake the No. 84, Smith retreated to the hub as Zach Alley showed a nose. Getting distance in the runner-up spot, Danny returned top shelf a few laps later to get some momentum built up, but it would be Alex DeCamp dominating by over a straightaway. Danny Smith in second was trailed by Kyle Clark who rolled through the field from 11th. Zach Alley and Bailey Hughes made the top-five.
Caution on the start of the Modified A-Feature, the green dropped on the second take with Chris Miles taking off from the pole. Slowed again on Lap 2, Miles came to speed with Brandon Dean with the No. 17 unable to capitalize and would have to roll the cushion to keep up, only to have Chad Davis race by on Lap 6 as the caution flew again. Back to the last fully completed lap, Dean retained the runner-up spot with Davis in tow. Opting for the bottom, the top was left open as Davis rolled by for second and with a full head of steam, rocketed to the point on Lap 7. Building a straightaway advantage, Davis would have one final challenge as the caution flew while working the final lap. Setting up the green, white, checkered finish, it was not enough to keep the No. 52 from his 11th win of the season, and second on the night after winning the rain-delayed Iron Man event. Justin Cartwright worked back to second with James Esmond in third. From 12th, Collin Wiseley was fourth with Ho Dean in fifth.
