SOONER SHOWDOWN ON TAP FOR POWRi WEST

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (June 18, 2019) – The POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League roars back to life this weekend with the Sooner Showdown set to tackle two Oklahoma bullrings. The doubleheader will open the weekend on Friday, June 21 at Sapulpa’s Creek County Speedway followed by a Saturday, June 22 trip to Tulsa’s Port City Raceway.

In a season that has been hindered by seemingly never-ending rain, the POWRi West Midgets have been able to sneak just two solo shows in at this point, with six co-sanctioned events alongside the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League.

Tackling the quarter-mile of Creek County Speedway first, teams will head for Sapulpa, Okla. on Friday night. When the POWRi West Midgets took to CCS in April, fans were treated to an incredible battle for the lead between three home-grown stars Tyler Thomas, Cannon McIntosh and Jonathan Beason. Ultimately, Beason topped the thrilling feature, leaving fans hungry for more of the epic POWRi West action at Creek County.

On Saturday, a trip to Tulsa, Okla. in in store as Port City Raceway takes center stage. After the jaw dropping finish to the Turnpike Challenge in March, when Beason beat Christopher Bell to the line with a last-corner pass, the POWRi West Midgets went back to PCR in April for a solo showing. Andrew Felker of Carl Junction, Mo. scored the victory, but not without a stout challenge from Beason in the closing laps.

With 20 events left on the calendar in 2019, Andrew Felker currently holds a 440-point lead over Oklahoma City’s Trey Marcham. Rounding out the top five in points at the moment is Logan Seavey (-510), Hank Davis (-650) and Cannon McIntosh (-710).

On Friday at Creek County, the gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing scheduled for 7:00 PM. Adult admission is $15, kids 11-14 are $6 and children 10 & under are FREE.

On Saturday at Port City, the pit gates will open at 1:00 PM with the grandstands opening at 5:00 PM and on-track action at 7:00 PM. Adult admission is $10, seniors & kids 6-12 are $6, veterans & kids 5-under are FREE, and pit passes are $30.
